This is a rather unusual question I’ve been asked. Can the crop tool in Photoshop CS6 crop a circle? Yes and No. Fact is Photoshop CS6 or any other version of Photoshop cannot crop a circle with the crop tool. It can however be done in any version of Photoshop via other methods. The same can be applied to other Adobe products such as Fireworks and Illustrator.

  • Open your image in Photoshop.

     

    • Press CTRL+O or Click on Open in the File tab.
  • Double click on the Background layer and make it a Normal layer – just click OK.

     

    • Create a layer and name it anything.
  • Select the Elliptical Marquee Tool.

     

    • Top left bar usually shows Rectangular Marquee Tool, change it to Elliptical Marquee Tool

  • Inverse the layer

     

    • By right clicking a dropdown list appears, Where you can find an option for Select Inverse.
  • Delete the outer layers

  • Right click again to Free Transform to Center the image
  • Crop your image to save
  • Save as .png
